West Bengal BJP Appoints Subrata Gupta as Chief Minister's Adviser
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal has undertaken swift changes to the Chief Minister's Office, announcing the appointment of retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Subrata Gupta as adviser to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Subrata Gupta, a member of the IAS from the 1990 batch, previously served as the Special Roll Observer for the Election Commission during the Special Intensive Revision exercise that preceded the recent Assembly elections in the state.
According to official notifications released on Saturday, Gupta's appointment is part of a broader effort to shape the governance framework following the BJP's electoral victory. His extensive bureaucratic background is expected to provide significant support in policy coordination and governance.
In a related development, IAS officer Shantanu Bala has been designated as the private secretary to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Previously, Bala held the position of additional district magistrate of South 24 Parganas before his transfer to the Chief Minister's Office.
Both Gupta and Bala are expected to take on their new roles immediately, according to the state administration’s directives. These appointments reflect the ongoing restructuring in the Chief Minister's Office aimed at ensuring efficient governance under the new state administration. Officials from the government noted that strengthening the leadership team is crucial for effective decision-making and the execution of policies.
