Viral Video of Alleged Tiger Attack in Maharashtra Sparks Debate
A video purporting to show a tiger attacking a man has gained significant attention on social media, with many users asserting that the incident occurred at the Forest Guest House in Brahmapuri, located in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra. The recording, allegedly from a security camera, displays a timestamp indicating the date as 31 October 2025 at 6:42 AM. This detail has contributed to discussions about the video's authenticity and its recency.
The footage has amassed over 58,000 views, eliciting strong reactions from viewers. Some expressed shock and horror at the alleged attack, while others raised doubts about the video's legitimacy, suspecting it might be a product of artificial intelligence. One user commented, "This is completely fake—AI generated. A lot of fake AI-generated wildlife videos are doing the rounds on social media." Another user noted that the video appeared well-made but contained noticeable errors, suggesting it was not genuine. Additionally, a third commenter cautioned that wild animals should not be underestimated due to their unpredictable behaviour.
In response to the growing speculation, local authorities have firmly rejected the video’s claims. Sachin Narad, the Range Forest Officer of Brahmapuri, stated that the footage has no connection to the district. “This video is not from Brahmapuri. It is not known where it was recorded,” he clarified. Officials are investigating the possibility that the video was digitally fabricated, potentially using artificial intelligence technology. Narad further advised against the dissemination of false information that could incite unnecessary panic in regions vulnerable to human-wildlife interactions.
Chandrapur district is situated within the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve landscape, an area known for frequent tiger sightings and occasional conflicts between humans and wildlife. Such incidents have likely contributed to the rapid spread of the video on social media platforms.
The case highlights the ongoing challenges of misinformation in the digital age, especially regarding wildlife and environmental issues. Experts emphasise the importance of verifying information before sharing, especially when it pertains to sensitive topics like wildlife safety and conservation. As the debate surrounding the video continues, officials urge caution and critical thinking among the public regarding the content they encounter online.
