Prime Minister Modi Criticises Bihar Opposition at Aurangabad Rally
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a pointed critique of the opposition alliance, Mahagathbandhan, during a rally in Aurangabad, Bihar, on Friday. He claimed that the current political climate in the state is detrimental to investment and job creation, labelling it 'jungle raj.' Modi asserted that the people of Bihar do not desire a 'katta sarkar,' a term implying a government associated with lawlessness and violence.
In his address, Modi elaborated on his concerns regarding the opposition, stating, "The people of 'jungle raj' are teaching children to become 'rangdaar' (gangsters). They are openly declaring that if their leaderâs government returns to power, there will be a resurgence of 'katta' (guns), 'donali' (double-barrel rifles), and 'rangdari' (extortion)." He emphasised that Bihar deserves better governance, one that promotes development rather than chaos.
"Bihar doesnât want a government of guns. Bihar doesnât want a government of misrule," Modi added, highlighting his administration's commitment to development and stability. He assured the electorate that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would continue its efforts to foster growth in the state.
Modi also scrutinised the seat-sharing arrangements among opposition parties, particularly targeting the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. He noted that Congress was assigned seats in regions where the RJD had not won in decades. Furthermore, Modi accused RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav of usurping the chief ministerial candidacy within the opposition alliance.
In terms of electoral participation, Modi pointed to a record voter turnout of 64.66% in the first phase of the assembly polls, highlighting this as a sign of public trust in the NDA's governance. He remarked, "Yesterday, the voters of Bihar broke all records. Never before in the history of the state has there been such a high poll percentage. Much of the credit goes to mothers and sisters who turned up in large numbers."
Modi reaffirmed his coalition with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, praising him for ending the previous regime of lawlessness in Bihar. He accused the former Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of hindering Kumar's governance during his initial years in office.
The Prime Minister underscored his administration's achievements, including the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. He declared, "People have faith in the track record of Modi and Nitish because I do what I promise."
The comments from Modi come as Bihar prepares for crucial assembly elections, with political dynamics heavily influenced by caste considerations and governance records. The NDA is seeking to consolidate its position against a backdrop of opposition challenges, emphasising a narrative of effective governance versus alleged misrule by the opposition parties.
The stakes are high in this politically significant state, where the outcome of the elections could have broader implications for the national political landscape.
