Uzbekistan Introduces Visa-Free Travel for Indian Citizens

Indian passport holders are now able to travel to Uzbekistan without the need for a visa for stays of up to 30 days. This change was announced on 30 August 2026 by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tashkent.

Previously, Indian travellers were required to apply for an online e-visa prior to their journey, a process that included additional fees and waiting times. Under the new arrangement, the visa-free regulation is expected to promote tourism between the two nations.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted India as a “reliable strategic partner” and pointed towards the significant growth in economic relations between Uzbekistan and India. He noted that bilateral trade surged over US$1 billion for the first time last year and that the number of joint ventures has increased sevenfold in recent times.

Further enhancing connectivity, 14 direct flights between India and Uzbekistan operate weekly, facilitating easier travel for tourists and business professionals alike.

It is essential to note that while the visa-free travel applies to stays of 30 days, those wishing to remain longer must still apply for the previously required e-visa. Additionally, an official implementation decree and specific start date from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs are still pending. Therefore, travellers planning to depart soon are advised to contact the Uzbek embassy for the latest updates and clarifications regarding their travel plans.
