US Conducts Ninth Consecutive Air Strikes on Iran Amid Tensions
The US has carried out its ninth night of air strikes on Iran as tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz, affecting multiple cities.

The United States has executed its ninth consecutive night of air strikes against Iran, with Iranian reports documenting explosions in various cities. Leading up to these strikes, US military officials confirmed the death of a third service member in recent days. The air strikes came amidst the breakdown of a month-long ceasefire, coinciding with ongoing battles for control in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

According to US military statements, the operations aimed to undermine Iranian military capabilities that have been employed against commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz. Targeted sites included military command centres, air defence locations, coastal surveillance assets, and missile launch installations.

Reports from Iranian state media, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), indicated that explosions were heard in numerous locations throughout the country, including the port cities of Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini, extending to areas near the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, air defence systems were activated in southeastern cities like Konarak and Chabahar.

During the strikes, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated with missile and drone attacks against US military assets in the region. The IRGC claimed to have launched attacks against US facilities in Jordan and Kuwait, with explosions reported near the city of Khvormuj in Bushehr Province and as far north as Tabriz, marking the first attack in that northwestern city since the current escalation began.

US President Donald Trump addressed reporters, stating that the attacks were conducted “in honour” of the fallen service members, and reiterated that Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon. Trump stressed the importance of the actions taken, indicating that the US would continue to hold Iran accountable for the deaths of American soldiers.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that while the US remains open to diplomatic engagements, it navigates these discussions with firmness. He called on other nations to contribute to maritime security in the Strait, suggesting that all nations share responsibility for safeguarding vital shipping routes.

The ongoing conflict has severely impacted regional stability, with thousands reported killed since the beginning of hostilities between the US, Israel, and Iran. The escalation of violence has raised global concerns over energy supplies and inflation as tensions continue to disrupt maritime shipping and operational freedoms in the strategically significant waterway.

In its latest statement, the IRGC asserted that their recent actions would not allow for safety in the transit of petrochemical products through the Strait while US military operations persist. As the situation evolves, both sides have indicated no immediate prospect for de-escalation, with Iran’s military remaining prepared to act against any perceived threats.
