US Airstrike Allegedly Targets Wedding in Iran, Five Dead

Officials in Iran have reported that a United States military airstrike struck a residential area during a wedding celebration in the southern county of Sirik, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals, including a child. Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the strike as a "brutal" attack that occurred early in the morning on Wednesday. According to state-owned Press TV, the bombing targeted a home in the city of Kuhestak.

Reza Shahidiyan, the governor of Sirik county, informed the IRIB state broadcaster that the assault also left 63 people injured, with the majority of the victims being women and children. All injured parties have been transported to a hospital in the nearby city of Minab, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The semi-official Fars news agency shared a harrowing account from a child who survived the explosion, stating that he heard fighter jets prior to the strike. “When we arrived there, an explosion occurred. It was very intense. Bricks, stones, and cement hit me in the face and head, and many others were injured,” he recounted, noting that "everyone was just ordinary civilians."

These developments come as the United States military announced a series of strikes against what it described as “Iranian military targets.” The US military indicated that these actions were in response to attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack commercial shipping in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Targets reportedly included Iranian air defence sites, radar systems, and various maritime assets.

Baghaei vowed that Iran would respond to these attacks, stating, "This cruelty cannot be separated from the chain of atrocities that preceded it." He referenced previous assaults on the cities of Minab and Lamerd, where US strikes reportedly resulted in numerous civilian casualties.

In Minab, reports indicated that a US strike on an elementary school killed more than 150 people, while a strike in Lamerd at a sports hall resulted in at least 21 deaths. In addition to the strike in Kuhestak, further explosions have been reported across southern Iran, including in Konarak, Bandar Abbas, and on Qeshm Island.

Iran's military reacted to the US strikes by launching attacks on American facilities and bases located in Jordan, Bahrain, and Iraq. Meanwhile, Kuwait reported intercepting drones thought to be linked to the escalating conflict.

The situation continues to develop amid a backdrop of ongoing military tensions and hostilities between the United States and Iran, with experts cautioning about rising vulnerabilities in the region and the potential for further escalation.
