Two Flights Diverted to Chennai Airport Due to Technical Issues

Chennai International Airport experienced significant activity on Monday as two passenger flights were redirected due to technical concerns. Both aircraft landed safely, and normal airport operations continued without incident.

The first diversion involved Malaysia Airlines flight MH156, which was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah. The aircraft, an Airbus A330-200 with 186 passengers on board, reported a technical issue concerning Engine No. 2. In response, a full emergency was declared at 4.07 pm. Emergency response measures were swiftly activated, ensuring the safe landing of the aircraft at 4.44 pm. Following the landing, the airline's technical teams commenced an assessment of the reported issue.

Later in the day, Air India Express flight IX682, which was flying from Tiruchirappalli to Singapore with 170 passengers, also faced a technical complication. A Local Standby was declared at 5.38 pm, prompting airport authorities to be on high alert for potential complications. The Boeing 737 successfully landed at 5.52 pm and was able to vacate the runway on its own.

No adverse incidents were reported in either case. Officials confirmed that the airlines' technical crews are currently investigating the issues that led to the diversions. A release from the airport clarified that all operations at Chennai Airport remained normal despite the situation.
