This follows reports suggesting that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Vice President JD Vance are engaging with Qatari officials to mediate the situation.

US President Donald Trump has expressed his concerns about possible assassination attempts against him by Iranian factions, stating, 'I've been on their list for a long time.' He further claimed to have given instructions for a severe retaliatory response should any harm come to him. His remarks coincided with public calls for his assassination during a recent funeral for Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
