Telangana Political Crisis: Minister's Daughter Challenges CM Revanth Reddy
Konda Sushmita publicly disputes Telangana CM Revanth Reddy's authority, raising tensions within the Congress party over candidate choices.

In a significant escalation within the Telangana Congress party, Konda Sushmita, the daughter of senior minister Konda Surekha, has publicly challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy regarding the selection of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. During a public meeting in Parkal, Sushmita questioned Revanth Reddy's authority to decide who should represent the party, specifically targeting his endorsement of sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy for the Parkal constituency. She stated, “Who is Revanth to decide my ticket?” and expressed her determination to secure the candidacy, asserting, “Whether you, your father, or your grandfather come, I will be the MLA of Parkal.” Sushmita's remarks came after Revanth Reddy appealed to constituents to support Revuri Prakash Reddy in the forthcoming elections. Amid this internal conflict, Sushmita has made it clear that she is prepared to contest as an independent candidate if her application for a Congress ticket is declined. Reacting to Revanth Reddy's endorsement of Revuri Prakash Reddy, she provocatively called for his resignation, stating, “Why wait two years? Ask him to resign right now!” The confrontation represents a broader indication of discontent within the party, with Sushmita labelling Revanth Reddy's leadership style as “arrogant” and suggesting that it favoured newer members over long-time loyalists. She has raised concerns regarding the representation of Backward Classes within Congress and alleged they have been sidelined. Furthermore, during her criticisms, she hinted at serious allegations of corruption involving Revanth Reddy, particularly focusing on a disputed ₹200-crore land deal linked to the chief minister's brother. Notably, these allegations remain unverified and stem solely from her statements. Following this public dispute, Congress MP and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Disciplinary Committee Chairman Mallu Ravi has demanded an explanation from Konda Surekha regarding her daughter's comments. Susmita's allegations have also drawn attention from the opposition, with BJP leader Karunasagar supporting her claims and urging for an inquiry into Revanth Reddy's actions. Karunasagar accused the Congress of systemic corruption, insisting that Revanth Reddy should resign to facilitate an investigation into the allegations. This conflict within the Congress party mirrors similar tensions noted in past events, including accusations from Sushmita against senior Congress leaders, hinting at a long-standing feud over representation and authority within the party ranks. The current situation highlights the fractures within Telangana Congress and the challenges it faces leading up to the elections, where internal unity will be critical for its success.
