Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's Visit Wins Hearts with Humble Gesture
New Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay captivates hearts with a kind visit and gestures, promising transparency in governance after assembly election victory.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who was sworn in just a day prior, visited the residence of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) founder Vaiko on Monday in Chennai's Aram Nagar. The visit saw him interacting warmly with Vaiko, but also with the female staff at the MDMK leader's household. A video that emerged on social media platform X showed Vijay expressing delight as he took pictures with the staff, who were visibly excited by the encounter.

One of the female staff members performed a traditional gesture, removing 'drishti', or evil eye, a common practice in Tamil culture. In a light-hearted moment, Vijay mimicked her actions, which drew smiles from those present.

Responses to this interaction have been overwhelmingly positive, with fans expressing appreciation for the way Vijay acknowledged the house staff. Comments on social media reflected sentiments such as, “A heartwarming gesture reciprocated so respectfully.” Another user remarked, “A good gesture from CM Vijay, showing he values everyone.” Such responses were especially touching, as one fan noted, “Our leader never considers women as mere servants but sees them as lionesses.”

In his inaugural speech as Chief Minister, Vijay committed to running a transparent government. He noted his plan to clarify state finances by releasing a white paper addressing concerns over the previous government’s management of resources. "Whatever I do, I will do openly and transparently," he stated, encouraging residents to give him time to fulfil his promises.

Vijay swiftly signed a series of official documents upon his swearing-in. His administration’s first actions included providing 200 units of free electricity and establishing Special Task Forces aimed at combating drug-related crimes and enhancing safety for women in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the political party led by Vijay, emerged as the single-largest faction in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 seats. While the party fell short of the majority threshold, it managed to form a coalition with support from other parties, including the Congress and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).

This combination of personal gestures and immediate governmental priorities marks what many see as a pivotal moment for Vijay’s administration, signalling a focus on both community engagement and responsive governance. As Vijay begins to shape his leadership, early indications suggest a commitment to maintaining strong lines of communication with the public and prioritising women's safety and empowerment.
