South Africa Names Squad for First Test Against Australia in Durban
South Africa, the reigning ICC World Test Championship holders, has announced its playing XI for the first Test against Australia, set to take place in Durban. Ahead of this highly anticipated match, pace bowler Kagiso Rabada will not feature in the lineup as he continues his recovery from injury. Anrich Nortje, however, makes a comeback to the Test format, following his last appearance against the West Indies earlier this year.
The selected squad includes captain Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, David Bedingham, Tristan Stubbs, Wiaan Mulder, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj, and Anrich Nortje. Temba Bavuma will lead the side after guiding the team to a 2-1 victory in the ODI series preceding this Test series.
This marks a significant moment in the cricket calendar, as it is the first time South Africa and Australia will convene in the longest format since their encounter in the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s in 2025. Australia currently leads the World Test Championship standings, while South Africa is positioned second, with both teams aspiring to qualify for next year’s World Test Championship Final scheduled at The Oval.
The fixtures for this series are as follows: the first Test will run from October 9 to 13 in Durban, followed by the second Test in Gqeberha from October 18 to 22, and the third Test in Cape Town from October 27 to 31.
