Smriti Mandhana's Wedding Postponed Amid Health Concerns
NEW DELHI: Speculation surrounding Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana's relationship with her fiancé, Palash Muchhal, has intensified following the postponement of their wedding. Recent claims on social media suggested that Mandhana had unfollowed Muchhal on Instagram, but fact-checking revealed this to be untrue. As of now, Mandhana continues to follow Muchhal on the platform. However, all wedding-related posts have been removed from her social media accounts.
The couple had planned to marry on September 23, but unforeseen medical emergencies within their families led to a change of plans. Mandhana's father, Shrinivas Mandhana, experienced heart-attack-like symptoms on the day of the wedding, necessitating immediate medical attention at Sarvhit Hospital. Just a day later, Muchhal also faced health issues, prompting his hospitalisation.
In a statement to the Hindustan Times, Amita Muchhal, Palash's mother, shared how deeply the situation affected her son. "Palash is very emotionally attached to Smriti's father. Their relationship is even closer than the Smriti-Palash chemistry," she remarked. She explained that Palash became distressed after the haldi ceremony when he learned of Shrinivas Mandhana's condition, which triggered his own health complications.
The couple’s wedding plans have been indefinitely postponed as both families prioritise health and recovery. Amita Muchhal recounted that after hearing of Shrinivas Mandhana's condition, Palash made the decision to halt the wedding rituals before Smriti could. "He decided they should not proceed with the wedding until uncle recovers," she said.
Palash Muchhal was hospitalised initially in Sangli, later moving to SRV Hospital in Goregaon, Mumbai. After being treated for stress-related issues, he was discharged once doctors confirmed his health was stable, although he remains under observation for ongoing emotional stress.
Despite ongoing social media rumours suggesting a breakup between the couple, both families have clarified that the delay in the wedding is solely due to medical circumstances. Neither Smriti Mandhana nor Palash Muchhal has commented publicly on the matter as they navigate this challenging period with a focus on family health and well-being.
