Rishabh Pant Faces Significant Pay Cut in IPL Trade Deal
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant set to lose INR 12 crore as he returns to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants in a potential trade.

Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, is reportedly poised to endure a substantial salary reduction as part of a trade that would see him return to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants. According to Cricbuzz, this deal is pending approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

If finalised, Pant’s pay is expected to decrease from INR 27 crore to approximately INR 15 crore, equating to a pay cut of around INR 12 crore or 44.44% of his current contract with Lucknow Super Giants. This significant reduction is pivotal, as his high salary had previously complicated any trade discussions. Teams often find such hefty contracts challenging to incorporate without upsetting their financial structure and squad composition.

Pant's willingness to adjust his financial expectations seems to have paved the way for his re-entry to Delhi Capitals. In contrast, Kuldeep Yadav is anticipated to move to Lucknow Super Giants on his existing INR 13.25 crore agreement. The proposed transfer represents a homecoming for both players. Pant has a long history with Delhi Capitals, having played domestic cricket for the franchise and participating in IPL matches from 2016 to 2024. He captained Delhi in 43 matches across three seasons before being released before the 2025 mega auction.

His departure at that time was attributed to reported disagreements with the franchise management. However, structural changes within Delhi Capitals, with JSW expected to have control for the next two years, may have rekindled the prospect of Pant's return. Parth Jindal, a key figure in the franchise, has shown consistent admiration for Pant, suggesting that his arrival back into the team could revive fan engagement.

Nonetheless, Pant's return may not immediately involve a captaincy role. Despite potential shifts in leadership, it is believed that his primary contribution will focus on his strength as a wicketkeeper-batter rather than as a captain.

For Lucknow Super Giants, this move signals a clear reset, as Pant’s tenure did not meet the franchise's expectations. His exit is increasingly likely following a disappointing season, with leadership being a critical component of Lucknow's strategy moving forward.

Should the BCCI approve the proposed trade, it would stand as one of the most significant transactions in IPL history, not only due to the high-profile names involved but also the considerable financial adjustments. The decision for Pant to lower his salary highlights the collective effort by all stakeholders to facilitate this trade.
