Reliance Jio Leads Delhi Telecom Sector in Latest TRAI Test Results
New Delhi: Reliance Jio has been identified as the top-performing telecom provider in Delhi, according to findings from the Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in October 2025. The assessments were carried out by TRAI's Regional Office in Delhi and focused on the mobile network performance in varied environments, including urban areas, institutional hotspots, public transport hubs, and high-speed corridors.
The TRAI report indicates that Reliance Jio excelled in three out of five voice Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performed well in overall data metrics. In terms of average download speed, Reliance Jio achieved a notable 249.02 megabits per second (Mbps), surpassing its nearest competitor, Airtel, which recorded an average download speed of 234.00 Mbps.
In the average upload speed category, Airtel led with a speed of 31.83 Mbps, while Reliance Jio followed with 25.98 Mbps. The IDT also evaluated voice service performance, particularly the Call Setup Success Rate, where Airtel, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea recorded rates of 99.50%, 86.53%, 99.30%, and 98.59%, respectively, in an auto-selection mode that includes 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G technologies.
The Call Setup Time for these operators was also analysed, with Airtel achieving a time of 0.82 seconds, MTNL at 3.62 seconds, Jio at 0.66 seconds, and Vodafone Idea at 0.69 seconds. Additionally, the drop call rates were reported as 0.00% for Airtel and Jio, 7.46% for MTNL, and 0.20% for Vodafone Idea.
Latency measurements showed that in the 50th percentile, Airtel recorded 11.69 milliseconds (ms), MTNL 21.32 ms, Jio 15.18 ms, and Vodafone Idea 35.03 ms, indicating differences in response times across the networks.
The Independent Drive Test findings were made public on Thursday and reflect comprehensive evaluations conducted from October 6 to October 10, 2025. During this period, TRAI teams covered 402.0 kilometres during city drive tests, assessed 14 hotspot locations, and conducted a 6.1-kilometre walk test, along with inter-operator calling at one location. The technologies evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, representing the service experiences of users with various handset capabilities.
TRAI has communicated the results of the IDT to all relevant telecom service providers, aiming to enhance service quality across the sector.
