Ravindra Jadeja Mentors Saransh Jain Ahead of Test Debut
Veteran cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has provided crucial advice to Saransh Jain ahead of his maiden Test match for India against Sri Lanka. As Jain prepared to step onto the pitch, Jadeja encouraged him to approach the match with confidence and free of unnecessary pressure. Jadeja emphasised the importance of treating this debut as just another First-Class match. Saransh Jain, the 33-year-old spin bowling all-rounder, made history as the 320th player to represent India in Test cricket during the second Test of a two-match series.
In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jadeja congratulated Jain, stating, "Test cap No. 320, Saransh, well done." He acknowledged Jain’s extensive preparation, saying, "The hard work that you have done for so many years in domestic cricket and have performed continuously, be it India A or the Ranji Trophy, I think this is a very important opportunity for you in life."
Jadeja highlighted the significance of the moment by saying, "As a cricketer, everyone has a dream to represent India and become a Test player. You should enjoy this moment. Don't take pressure at all." He urged Jain to play as he did in domestic competitions, assuring him that he had the support of the entire team.
Saransh Jain, who stepped in for Kuldeep Yadav, expressed gratitude for receiving his debut cap from Jadeja. "First of all, I would like to thank God and after that my family. My father is the closest person to me, so I would tell him first (about making Test debut)," Jain remarked. He also acknowledged Jadeja's stature as a seasoned all-rounder, noting, "Jaddu bhai is a legend and if I am getting the cap from him, it will only benefit me." Jain appreciated the motivation and indicated that he was keen to fulfil his dreams as cricketer.
Jain's debut represents not just a significant personal achievement but also a moment of pride for his family, particularly his father, who introduced him to the sport. The encouragement from Jadeja exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie and mentorship prevalent in Indian cricket, particularly as new players transition to the international stage.
