Ranveer Singh to Star in Upcoming Zombie Film 'Pralay'
Ranveer Singh, the acclaimed Bollywood actor, is set to explore a new cinematic genre with the announcement of his upcoming film titled 'Pralay', a zombie thriller. Following the success of his recent film 'Dhurandhar', Singh will begin work on 'Don 3', directed by Farhan Akhtar, in January 2026. After wrapping up this project, he will transition to 'Pralay', directed by Jay Mehta, the son of noted filmmaker Hansal Mehta.
The zombie genre has gained substantial popularity in global cinema, particularly in South Korea, but has seen limited exploration in Indian films. The last notable Hindi film in this category was 'Go Goa Gone', which was released over a decade ago. A source close to the project stated, “Ranveer and Jay aim to make a significant impact with this untapped genre. 'Pralay' will commence filming shortly after he completes 'Don 3'. The film is expected to feature special effects that rival those seen in Korean zombie films.”
'Pralay' is reported to focus on a protagonist who combats survival challenges in a world overrun by zombies. The narrative is anticipated to incorporate broader themes of social, emotional, and moral collapse within a dystopian framework. Notably, parts of Mumbai will be digitally altered to create an abandoned atmosphere reminiscent of the dystopian settings found in films like 'The Hunger Games'.
As per reports from 'Mid-Day', filming for 'Pralay' is likely to start between July and August 2026, following the completion of 'Don 3'. The precise schedule will be confirmed in January, once Ranveer Singh’s commitments to 'Don 3' are finalised.
In his recent work, Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar', a spy thriller produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, has performed exceptionally well at the box office, grossing approximately Rs 364.25 crore within ten days of its release. This impressive figure surpasses the total earnings of several previous films, including 'Gully Boy'.
With 'Pralay', Singh aims to maintain the momentum of his career, expanding his repertoire while delving into a genre that has remained largely unexplored in Indian cinema. Fans and industry observers alike are keenly anticipating the film's release, marking a unique chapter in Singh's evolving cinematic journey.
