Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar Struggles at Japanese Box Office
Despite immense hype, Ranveer Singh's film Dhurandhar garnered just 900 admissions in Japan on its opening day, failing to reach key box office milestones.

The action drama 'Dhurandhar', featuring Indian actor Ranveer Singh, has encountered challenges at the Japanese box office since its premiere on July 10. Despite extensive promotional efforts, the film failed to make a significant impact, obtaining only 900 admissions across nearly 80 screens on its opening day.

As reported by Bollywood Box Office, the film registered 449 admissions by 2 pm on its release day, which saw limited growth, resulting in the final count reaching approximately 900 by day’s end. This opening did not secure a position among Japan's top 25 films, and the film was unable to surpass the opening-day figures required to enter the top 10 Indian films list in the country.

To break into this competitive list, 'Dhurandhar' would have needed to exceed the 1,300 admissions recorded by Salman Khan’s 'Tiger 3', which currently holds the 10th spot. Other films, including 'Pushpa 2', have also struggled to make their mark in Japan.

In contrast, the chart-topper remains 'RRR', which boasts the highest opening for an Indian film in Japan at 8,230 admissions. The current list of the top 10 Indian films by their opening-day admissions in Japan includes:

  1. RRR — 8,230 admissions
  2. Saaho — 6,510 admissions
  3. Kalki 2898 AD — 3,700 admissions
  4. Pathaan — 2,220 admissions
  5. Salaar — 2,200 admissions
  6. Jawan — 1,960 admissions
  7. Rangasthalam — 1,610 admissions
  8. Devara — 1,550 admissions
  9. Baahubali 2 — 1,380 admissions
  10. Tiger 3 — 1,300 admissions

The release in Japan follows an impressive domestic performance for the 'Dhurandhar' franchise, where the second film, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', emerged as the second highest-grossing Indian film worldwide, trailing only Aamir Khan's 'Dangal’ with collections of around Rs 1,813 crore globally.

The first instalment of the film, released in December 2025, also achieved remarkable success, grossing over Rs 1,307 crore. Together, both films have surpassed a combined total of Rs 3,100 crore worldwide.

Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, the films involve notable contributions from producers Aditya Dhar, Lokesh Dhar, and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The ensemble cast includes Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and several others.
