After receiving interim bail, Rajpal Yadav advocates for smoking rooms in prisons, asserting that inmates deserve comforts similar to game shows.

Indian actor Rajpal Yadav has made headlines following his recent temporary release from Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque bounce case involving ₹9 crore (approximately £1 million). Upon his release on Tuesday evening, Yadav expressed gratitude for the extensive support he received from fans and the general public throughout his legal ordeal.

Yadav, who has built a significant film career over nearly three decades, stated, "The love and backing of the people from across the nation remain with me. If anybody has any allegations, I am ready to respond fully and transparently." His comments come after the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail upon the submission of ₹1.5 crore to the complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd.

In a surprising request made post-release, Rajpal Yadav suggested the establishment of designated smoking areas within prison facilities. He drew a parallel to popular television shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), arguing that prisoners, much like participants in such games, deserve certain comforts and 'lifelines' in their daily routines.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court provisionally suspended Yadav's six-month sentence pending further hearings. The court mandated that the actor surrender his passport and remain available for future court appearances, the next of which is scheduled for 18 March.

The cheque bounce case has its roots in Yadav's financial dealings with businessman Gopal Agrawal in 2010, when the actor borrowed ₹5 crore to fund his debut directorial project, Ata Pata Laapata. Due to the film's commercial failure, a dispute arose regarding the repayment, leading Agrawal to pursue legal action after multiple cheques issued by Yadav were returned due to insufficient funds.

Agrawal has shared that his attempts to reclaim the funds have been ongoing for several years, during which he felt emotionally compelled to plead with Yadav for repayment, describing moments where he “cried in front of him like a child.” The evolving nature of their agreement included several addendums, as Yadav continued to request further time to settle his debts.

As attention around this legal case continues, Rajpal Yadav remains a prominent figure in Bollywood, known for his roles in numerous films, and it is expected that his future appearances in court will not only determine the resolution of this financial dispute but also shape the public's perception of the actor amidst the ongoing proceedings.
