President Murmu Highlights Gandhi's Message on Birth Anniversary
New Delhi, 1 October – President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his 157th birth anniversary, known as Gandhi Jayanti. In her message, she noted that Gandhi's ideals of peace and non-violence have become increasingly significant in a world rife with conflict.
During her address, President Murmu stated, "On behalf of all citizens, I pay my respectful tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi… Today, an atmosphere of war and conflict prevails in many parts of the world, affecting all nations. In these circumstances, Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence becomes even more relevant."
She further expressed that India is striving towards becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) by 2047, with a focus on empathy and inclusion, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the developmental journey. The President highlighted that this vision reflects Gandhi's principle of 'Sarvodaya', which advocates for the welfare of all individuals.
President Murmu urged citizens to reaffirm their dedication to ethical conduct and active participation in building a self-reliant India. Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, is celebrated globally for his contributions to the philosophy of non-violence and social justice.
