Pharma Trader Murder Investigation Underway in Kanpur

Kanpur: A 63-year-old wholesale medicine trader was reportedly murdered inside his flat in a residential complex in the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur. Police believe the incident occurred on the night between Saturday and Sunday. The victim, Vineet Minocha, was discovered around 3 am on Sunday by his family following their return from a social gathering.

The police stated that Minocha’s throat had been slit, and he exhibited multiple injuries. The family found the main door open and his body in a pool of blood, with traces scattered around the room, including on the bedsheet. Initial investigations suggest the murder likely occurred between 10:30 pm on Saturday and the time the family returned home.

In response to the discovery, officials from the Kalyanpur police arrived and summoned a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to examine the crime scene and collect various forms of evidence. Minocha operated as a wholesale medicine distributor under the name Pharma Traders alongside his son, Subrat. His wife, Punita, had reportedly left for Ghaziabad about a week before the incident. Their daughter and son-in-law, both engineers, resided in Gurugram.

Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from within the apartment complex. They have already detained two individuals for questioning, who were seen entering Minocha’s flat shortly before the murder. It remains unclear whether Minocha had any prior confrontations or was acquainted with the alleged assailants, as relatives indicated they were unaware of any potential enmity.

According to neighbours, the area was quiet around the time of the murder, and reports indicate signs of a struggle inside the victim's residence, while belongings appeared relatively undisturbed. The police are examining this along with forensic findings and the CCTV footage to piece together the events that transpired.

Rajesh Kumar Pandey, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), confirmed that legal proceedings were initiated based on a complaint from Minocha's son, Subrat. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kalyanpur, Dilip Singh, added that a formal case had been registered, and efforts were ongoing to verify the involvement of the detained individuals in connection with the case. Authorities are also working to uncover the motive behind the murder and to ascertain the identity of anyone connected to the incident.
