Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Awarded Saudi Arabia's Top Honour
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, has been awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence, the highest civilian honour in Saudi Arabia, during his official visit to the Kingdom. This prestigious accolade was granted under a Royal Decree by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
The Pakistan Army announced the honour, emphasising that the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class is the Kingdom's highest national decoration. A statement from the army noted that the Saudi leadership expressed appreciation for Field Marshal Munir's professionalism and strategic vision, acknowledging his pivotal role in fortifying the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
In response to the honour, Field Marshal Munir conveyed his gratitude to King Salman and the Saudi leadership, describing the recognition as a testament to the enduring ties between the two nations. He reiterated Pakistan's commitment to ensuring the security, stability, and prosperity of Saudi Arabia.
During his visit, Field Marshal Munir also engaged in discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The talks focused on several issues of mutual interest, including regional security, defence cooperation, military collaboration, and the evolving geopolitical landscape.
This honour is part of a broader context of defence collaboration between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which has seen various high-level exchanges and mutual support over the years. In a notable instance, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the King Abdulaziz Sash, another significant honour, during his visit to Saudi Arabia in 2016.
The ongoing dialogue between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reflects a commitment to maintain strong bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of defence and regional stability. Field Marshal Munir's visit and subsequent recognition serve to reinforce these ties at a time of complex international dynamics.
