Odisha Chief Minister Distributes Over ₹5,160 Crore to Women

In a significant move aimed at supporting women across the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the disbursement of over ₹5,160 crore as part of the fifth instalment of the Subhadra Yojana. This initiative, held on August 28, took place in Lathipada within Nayagarh district, where the funds were directly deposited into the bank accounts of more than one crore women beneficiaries.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, alongside senior leaders from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In total, 1,03,26,162 beneficiaries accessed this financial aid, with 2,21,054 women receiving support for the first time under this scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Subhadra Yojana in Odisha on September 17, 2024, shortly after the BJP secured control of the state government. The initiative is designed to provide eligible women with an annual financial assistance of ₹10,000. This amount is issued in two payments of ₹5,000 each, with one instalment released on Raksha Bandhan and the other on International Women’s Day.

The Subhadra Yojana aims to empower women financially, enhancing their ability to support their families. Women eligible for the assistance can confirm their payment status via the official portal or by checking their bank statements. Payments are processed through the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme, ensuring that funds reach the beneficiaries without delay.

In addition to the immediate financial support, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida recently met with Prime Minister Modi to discuss the programme's success and to provide updates on various women-oriented welfare initiatives in the state. She highlighted efforts to ensure timely disbursement of funds to all eligible recipients.
