NSE Increases Trading Hours for Equity Derivatives Segment
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India has announced a modification to its trading hours for the equity derivatives segment. Beginning on August 3, 2026, the closing time for trades in this segment will be adjusted to 3:40 pm, an extension of 10 minutes from the current schedule.
The pre-open and regular market opening times, however, will remain unchanged, allowing for consistency in trading practices. The pricing methodologies will still utilise the volume-weighted average price based on the last half-hour of trading, ensuring continuity in market operations.
This decision is anticipated to provide traders with additional time to assess market conditions and make informed trading choices, aligning with global practices in stock exchanges.
Preparations for this change will involve communication with market participants to facilitate a smooth transition. Experts suggest that the additional trading time could enhance liquidity in the derivatives market, which is essential for investors and market dynamics going forward.
This change reflects the NSE's ongoing commitment to improving market efficiency and adapting to the needs of its participants, as well as aligning itself more closely with international standards in trading hours.
