New York Knicks Near NBA Championship After Epic Comeback
The Knicks secure a thrilling victory over the Spurs, aiming for their first NBA title since 1973, following a record comeback in Game 4.

The New York Knicks achieved a remarkable victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, overcoming a 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106. This victory places the Knicks just one win away from clinching their first championship since 1973.

The game unfolded dramatically, with the Spurs establishing a significant lead, reaching a 27-point advantage at halftime. However, the Knicks showcased their resilience, particularly in the second half, thanks to standout performances from Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby. Brunson scored 36 points, while Anunoby contributed 33 points, including the decisive tip-in following Brunson's missed three-pointer with just 1.2 seconds on the clock.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown praised Anunoby's drive, stating, “I told OG as big, as strong, as athletic as he is, he’s got to be a monster on the offensive glass tonight.” This comeback is particularly historic, as no team in NBA Finals history had previously come back from more than 24 points down.

In a reversal of fortunes, the Spurs, who began strongly and led 81-52 in the third quarter, faltered in the second half. Their shooting accuracy plummeted, making only three of their 17 attempts from long range. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson reflected on this performance, commenting on the team's struggle, “We got on our heels; we missed some shots. It’s disappointing, to say the least.”

The fans at Madison Square Garden experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, especially during a stunning 13-0 run in the third quarter, which marked a significant turnaround for the Knicks.

Despite the loss, Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama scored 24 points and collected 13 rebounds, although he struggled with his shooting, finishing with a 9-for-25 record from the field. Wembanyama acknowledged the shift in his team's performance, indicating that it was tough to pinpoint the cause of their collapse, stating, “I can’t really explain it right now. I don’t know… We clearly weren’t the most hungry in the second half.”

Looking ahead, Game 5 will take place in San Antonio on Saturday, where the Spurs will aim to prolong the series. The Knicks, having snapped a previous winning streak with their Game 3 loss, now find themselves in a strong position, potentially moving closer to ending a decades-long championship drought.

As the series progresses, fans will be eager to see if the Knicks can maintain momentum or if the Spurs can bounce back from this disappointment.
