Nepali Woman Rescued After 10 Days Buried in Flood Debris
A 64-year-old woman was found alive after being buried under debris for 10 days following devastating floods in Nepal.

Chandrika Shrestha, a 64-year-old woman from Nepal, was rescued after being buried under mud and debris for ten days following severe floods that struck the region. Initially presumed dead by her family, they had already begun preparations for her funeral rituals. Her remarkable survival came to light when rescuers located her on the eleventh day, amidst ruins caused by the catastrophic flooding in Kaski district, located in central Nepal.

The floods, which have coursed through various parts of Nepal, have led to extensive property damage and numerous casualties. Reports indicate that heavy rainfall has been a contributing factor to the rise in water levels, leading to landslides and the displacement of many families. According to local authorities, at least thirty individuals are confirmed dead due to the recent calamities, with numbers expected to rise as search efforts continue.

Shrestha's miraculous survival raises questions about resilience in the face of natural disasters. Family members expressed disbelief and joy upon learning that she was alive. Her son, who had been mourning her presumed death, described the moment of her discovery as miraculous.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with government agencies and local organisations working together to provide assistance to those affected by the floods. Emergency response teams have been deployed to assess the damages and to assist displaced families.

Officials are urging residents in at-risk areas to heed warnings and to take necessary precautions as weather forecasts predict further rainfall. With the monsoon season continuing, the vulnerability of many communities remains a significant concern, underscoring the need for improved disaster preparedness and response mechanisms in the region.
