Nashik BPO Allegations Uncover International Conversion Network
A covert police operation in Nashik reveals an alleged conversion racket linked to Malaysia, with multiple victims and employees implicated.

Investigations into reported suspicious activities at a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) business process outsourcing (BPO) campus in Nashik, Maharashtra, have uncovered allegations of a conversion racket with potential international connections. The covert operation began following a tip-off in February, leading to the deployment of undercover women constables posing as housekeeping staff.

The investigation, supported by WhatsApp communications and eyewitness accounts, has indicated a wider network operating from within the TCS office. Authorities have identified at least 12 individuals as alleged targets of the conversion scheme, an increase from the nine initially reported.

As of now, nine first information reports (FIRs) have been lodged, filed by eight women and one man, with accusations including sexual harassment, rape under the guise of marriage, religious manipulation, and offending religious sentiments. In addition to these nine employees, three others have come forward with statements, although they have not yet filed formal complaints due to concerns about personal repercussions and societal stigma.

Nida Khan, the human resources manager, is currently evading authorities as they investigate her recruitment practices and her involvement in the alleged racket. The initiative to deploy undercover officers has yielded significant insights, with the women constables’ reports helping to outline interactions and corroborate claims from affected individuals.

Imran, an individual linked to Malaysia, has emerged in the WhatsApp conversations being scrutinised by investigators. He is believed to be a preacher who encouraged employees through video calls to consider relocating abroad for better job opportunities and lifestyles. The verification of his identity and role within the scheme remains ongoing.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has identified WhatsApp groups where the suspects allegedly discussed colleagues, pinpointed potential targets, and coordinated their strategies. Investigators are now employing forensic tools to recover deleted conversations, which may provide vital evidence regarding the nature and extent of the operation.

Statements from witnesses suggest a systematic pattern of inappropriate behaviour by the accused, including six team leaders and Nida Khan, the HR manager. Reports indicate they perpetrated verbal abuse, made inappropriate advances, and pressured colleagues to adopt Islamic practices, often accompanied by derogatory remarks regarding their religious beliefs.

Nida Khan's ongoing absence complicates the investigation as officials review her employment decisions and internal processes at TCS. Authorities have requested detailed insights from TCS concerning its internal checks and the recruitment of personnel potentially linked to these accusations. Further accused individuals may be identified as the investigation continues, indicating the possibility of a more extensive network than initially perceived.
