Narendra Modi Engages with Global Leaders at G20 Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and several other world leaders during the G20 Summit held on Saturday. His arrival at the summit venue was marked by a warm reception from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Footage shared by the news agency ANI captured the moment when PM Modi exchanged greetings and handshakes with Prime Minister Meloni. The two leaders previously met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada in June.
In a foreword to the Indian edition of Meloni's autobiography, titled 'I Am Giorgia', PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'It is not just an autobiography; it is her Mann Ki Baat.' He remarked on the privilege of engaging with various world leaders over the past 11 years, noting their diverse life journeys and the larger ideals they embody. Modi highlighted Meloni's remarkable life experiences, which he believes contribute to the significance of her book.
In addition to his meeting with Meloni, PM Modi embraced Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and engaged in a 'very productive' discussion with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. These interactions underscore India's commitment to fostering international relations and collaboration on pressing global issues.
During the summit, PM Modi addressed the participants, advocating for a reassessment of global development standards. He proposed the establishment of a G20 initiative to combat the nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism, as well as the creation of a global healthcare response team to address health crises effectively.
Furthermore, Modi suggested the formation of a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository under the G20 framework. This initiative aims to safeguard lifestyles that promote environmental sustainability, respect cultural heritage, and uphold social cohesion. His proposals reflect a growing recognition of the importance of integrating traditional knowledge into contemporary global challenges.
The G20 Summit serves as a critical platform for world leaders to discuss and collaborate on various global matters, ranging from economic stability to health security. As discussions continue, the engagement of leaders like PM Modi signals India's proactive role in shaping international policy and fostering cooperation among nations.
