Milky Mist Dairy Food Makes Strong Debut on Indian Stock Exchange
Shares of Milky Mist Dairy Food made a notable entry on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday, debuting at ₹165, which represents a premium of 17.8% over the initial public offering (IPO) price of ₹140. This robust opening illustrates a positive trend among investors eager to capitalise on the company's growth potential.
Following their debut, Milky Mist shares surged rapidly, reaching ₹181.50 on the NSE, showing gains of nearly 30% within the first hour of trading. The stock's upward momentum reflects strong market confidence, as it quickly hit the upper circuit limits of both exchanges. This is indicative of significant trading demand, particularly given that the total market capitalisation of the company stood at ₹13,968.81 crore as per BSE data.
Milky Mist Dairy Food has garnered attention not only for its strong opening but also for its impressive growth metrics. The company has reported a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33.6% in revenue, alongside expanding profit margins and a return on equity (RoE) nearing 32%. Its focus on the value-added dairy segment positions it favourably within a competitive market.
Temasek-backed Jongsong Investments provided further validation to the company’s valuation by investing ₹482 crore in a pre-IPO round at a price of ₹139.76 per share, acquiring about a 5.2% stake. Such backing is often seen as reflective of robust growth prospects.
Despite the optimism, some market analysts have expressed caution regarding the stock's high price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, currently standing at approximately 85 times projected earnings for fiscal year 2026, significantly higher than the dairy sector average of around 52.5 times. While this premium can be justified by the company’s strong margins and its diverse product offerings, investors are advised to exercise prudence. According to Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart, “Our view remains positive on the business, but investors should avoid chasing the stock at current levels. Hold with a stop-loss of ₹150 and consider adding on meaningful dips.”
On the broader market front, the benchmarks experienced declines for the sixth consecutive session, with the Sensex dropping 492.70 points to close at 77,235.46. In contrast, Milky Mist's performance paints a different picture as it stands out amid declining market indices, possibly highlighting investor preference for solid growth narratives in uncertain times.
Reports suggest that the IPO was highly subscribed, receiving 42.29 times the total issue size by the final day of bidding, underscoring the investor interest that has surrounded this company.
