Meerut Incident: Man Arrested for Attempting to Run Over Wife
A dramatic incident unfolded in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, when a woman reportedly caught her husband in a car with another woman. The altercation escalated as the husband attempted to run his wife over with the vehicle. The event took place near the L-Block police outpost on Hapur Road, according to the Lohiya Nagar police station.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Sunita from Kazipur, confronted her husband Mayank, aged 36, who was accompanied by 34-year-old Mahi Verma. Following the confrontation, an argument broke out, during which Sunita alleged that Mayank attempted to run her down with the car. She further claimed that both Mayank and Mahi verbally abused her, pushed her into bushes, and attempted to strangle her.
Authorities reported that a video of the incident surfaced on social media, showing Sunita hanging onto the bonnet of the moving car. Circle Officer Kotwali, Sangram Singh, confirmed that both the man and the woman in the car have been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized. Police have filed a case against them under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, included in the Indian Penal Code.
This incident follows a similar occurrence last month in Lucknow, wherein a woman jumped onto the bonnet of a moving car during a dispute with a friend. That case also resulted in police involvement under the same charges of attempt to murder.
As urban incidents like these gain visibility, questions arise regarding domestic disputes and their public implications, alongside the role of social media in capturing and disseminating such events.
