Mass Shooting in Shreveport Leaves Multiple Young Victims Dead
Authorities in Shreveport, Louisiana, are investigating a mass shooting that occurred in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood on Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least eight young people. The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) reported that the victims, aged between 18 months and 14 years, were among several individuals who suffered injuries during the incident.
The gunman, an adult male, is also deceased. He was shot by police following a pursuit that started in Shreveport and ended in Bossier City, where he was found near Brompton Lane and Long Acre Drive. The incident is under investigation by the Louisiana State Police, which is taking the lead on the Bossier City element of the case.
According to the SPD, the initial shooting began early in the 300 block of West 79th Street, adjacent to Linwood Avenue. At least two additional shooting scenes have been identified; one is located about a quarter-mile away on Harrison Street, between Wallace Avenue and Bernstein Avenue.
Witnesses report that a total of 30 police units were still present at the West 79th Street scene by 10:30 a.m. Officials confirmed that the shootings are believed to be domestic in nature.
In addition to the deceased minors, two adult women sustained head injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. A young boy was also injured, having jumped from a roof amidst the chaos.
Authorities learnt that the suspect may have deliberately driven into Bossier City during the police chase due to a personal connection to a residence in that area. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
The Shreveport Police Department continues to work closely with state authorities to uncover further details on this tragic event.
Community members are in mourning, with many expressing their condolences for the affected families. Local services and support systems are likely to be mobilised to assist those impacted by this incident.
