Mary D'Costa Addresses Rumours Amid Smriti Mandhana's Wedding Delay
Speculation and unverified claims have surrounded the recent postponement of cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal. The couple was set to marry on November 23, 2025, in Sangli, Maharashtra, when unforeseen medical emergencies arose, leading to the delay.
Mary D'Costa, a name that emerged in connection with the wedding's postponement, recently took to social media to clarify her role amid swirling allegations. Rumours suggested that D'Costa was linked to the wedding delay, allegedly due to flirtatious exchanges with Muchhal. Screenshots of these supposed interactions circulated widely on platforms such as Reddit and Twitter, escalating the speculation.
In response to the allegations, Mary D'Costa issued a statement on Instagram, asserting that her interactions with Muchhal were brief and that they had never met in person. "The chats occurred between April 29 and May 30, 2025, and I want to make it clear that I never met him and I never got involved with him in any way," she wrote. D'Costa also refuted claims regarding her being a choreographer for the wedding, stating, "I am not the choreographer, and I am not the person he cheated with."
The wedding was initially set against a backdrop of festivities that included traditional ceremonies, but was abruptly postponed when Mandhana's father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was hospitalised due to a heart condition. Muchhal also faced health challenges, being admitted to a hospital due to stress and exhaustion, prompting further concerns about the couple's well-being.
Palash Muchhal’s cousin, Neeti Tak, defended him on social media, urging people not to judge based on unverified information. She highlighted the deep bond Muchhal shares with Mandhana's family, especially with her father, stating, "Palash is very attached to uncle. When he fell ill, Palash decided that the wedding should not take place until he fully recovers."
Despite the clarification from Mary D'Costa and support from Muchhal’s family, social media reactions have remained mixed. Some users have expressed scepticism, questioning the authenticity of the messages attributed to D'Costa while others have speculated about the implications of the wedding's delay.
As of now, both Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal have not publicly addressed the ongoing controversy, focusing instead on their families' health and recovery during this challenging time.
