Martin Short expresses profound grief over the loss of his daughter Katherine, who has passed away at age 42. The family asks for privacy.

Martin Short, the Canadian actor known for his comedic roles, has confirmed the death of his daughter Katherine Hartley Short at the age of 42. In a statement released through his representative, Short conveyed that Katherine 'will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.' The family is currently experiencing deep sorrow and has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Katherine Short was a social worker, reportedly working in Los Angeles after earning her bachelor's degree from New York University and later a master's in social work from the University of Southern California. She was also involved with the nonprofit organisation Bring Change to Mind, which aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Sources from law enforcement have indicated that Katherine's death appears to be a suicide, having been discovered at her home in Hollywood Hills. An immediate response was provided by the Los Angeles Police Department and local fire services at approximately 6:40 PM PT.

As a result of this family tragedy, Martin Short has decided to postpone several scheduled live performances with his long-time comedy partner, Steve Martin. The postponements include a show at the Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and another in Minneapolis, Minnesota, originally planned for the upcoming weekend.

Katherine was the eldest of Martin Short's three children, all of whom he raised with his late wife, actress Nancy Dolman, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010. Despite her father's prominence in the entertainment industry, Katherine largely remained out of the public eye, attending only select events with him.

Recently, Short has faced further heartache following the loss of his friend and fellow performer Catherine O'Hara late last month. He is currently nominated for the best male actor in a comedy series award at the forthcoming Actor Awards for his role as Oliver Putnam in the series Only Murders in the Building.

For those struggling with mental health issues or experiencing distress, numerous resources are available. In many countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, helplines such as the 988 suicide helpline are accessible, offering support and assistance to those in need.
