Mahhi Vij Calls Bigg Boss 20 a 'Divorcee Special' Featuring Controversy
The latest season of Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan, has officially commenced, bringing a fresh wave of drama and interactions among its contestants. Since its premiere, the show has witnessed intense exchanges and budding relationships among its participants. In a notable moment, television actress Mahhi Vij described the current season as a 'divorcee special' while discussing the journey of her co-contestants.
Mahhi Vij, who separated from her husband and fellow actor Jay Bhanushali last year, engaged her fellow contestants in conversations about their personal backgrounds. Some of these discussions included the sensitive topic of divorce, which both Isha Rikhi and boxing champion Mary Kom were reluctant to delve into. During a heated dialogue, Mahhi remarked, "There are three divorcees on the show — you, me and that boxer. Our second innings is already underway; it’s a divorcee special."
Kanika, another contestant, asked Mahhi if she was single, but Mahhi declined to elaborate. When conversing with Isha Rikhi about her reasons for joining the show, Isha shared her desire for recognition beyond her past relationships, stating, "I don’t want people to know me as someone's girlfriend or wife. I want to be known for my name and identity." In response, Mahhi interrupted, pointing out Isha's increased visibility on social media.
Interestingly, Mahhi's inquiries didn't stop at Isha. When she questioned Mary Kom about her divorce, Mary opted not to respond. Mahhi suggested that it's essential to discuss the positives of past relationships and not focus solely on negative aspects. This prompted Isha to challenge Mahhi, questioning why she seemed eager to discuss matters that the others were unwilling to talk about.
Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali tied the knot in 2011 and raised a family together, welcoming their eldest children, Rajveer and Khushi, in 2017 and their daughter Tara in 2019. However, after years together, speculation regarding their relationship surfaced. Following a brief period of silence on these rumours, the couple announced their official separation in January 2026 after fourteen years, emphasising that they would continue to support one another.
On the other hand, Isha Rikhi's marriage to rapper Badshah, which garnered attention early this year through social media, also came to an abrupt conclusion after just five months, with their separation becoming public knowledge shortly thereafter.
Mary Kom, a celebrated figure in sports, had been married to Karung Onkholer since 2005, and together they had four children. Their marriage ended quietly in December 2023, with both parties consenting to the divorce under the customary Kom law, and the announcement was made public in 2025.
Bigg Boss 20 premiered on 6 September and has introduced the audience to a diverse lineup of sixteen contestants, including Mahhi Vij, Isha Rikhi, and Mary Kom. The opening episode showcased a captaincy task led by Qazi Touqeer, while some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the contestant selection, labelling it a 'weak lineup'. Despite these critiques, the housemates managed to engage audiences with significant drama from the outset.
