Lexar Launches Muse, World’s Slimmest Portable SSD at IFA 2026

Lexar, a prominent player in memory and storage solutions, debuted its new product, the Lexar Muse, during IFA 2026 in Berlin. This release aligns with the company's 30th anniversary, showcasing its commitment to innovation in the storage industry. The Muse is touted as the world's thinnest portable solid-state drive (SSD), designed to cater to the evolving needs of mobile content creators.

Employing a sleek and minimalist design, the Muse measures between 1 millimetre and 3.8 millimetres thick, significantly thinner than traditional portable SSDs. Thanks to its unique construction, including a single-piece metal enclosure, the device boasts a continuous silhouette that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The ultra-thin architecture combines high-density NAND stacking and a custom circuit board to enhance its compactness while maintaining high performance.

The device features intuitive magnetic connectivity through Lexar’s proprietary PogoPin data connection, which pairs seamlessly with a SnapLink Magnetic Cable. This innovative solution not only simplifies user experience but also assists in keeping setups organised and streamlined. The Muse is positioned as an essential tool for professionals who frequently engage in mobile filming and rapid editing.

Notably, the SSD provides impressive read speeds of up to 1,050 megabytes per second and write speeds reaching 1,000 megabytes per second. This performance enables direct external recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at frame rates up to 120 frames per second, making it compatible with the latest iPhone models and other USB-C devices. The Muse will be available in two capacities, 512 gigabytes and 1 terabyte, starting in the last quarter of 2026.

Beyond introducing the Muse, Lexar is also presenting its advancements in artificial intelligence storage technologies at IFA 2026. These innovations include the AI-grade Gen5 solid-state drives and storage sticks, which promise to enhance local model storage capabilities for compact AI devices. With bandwidth metrics reaching up to 11 gigabytes per second, these products demonstrate Lexar’s commitment to supporting the growing tech landscape.

Additionally, Lexar is looking to expand its reach into commercial sectors, offering tailored solutions for OEMs, commercial PCs, and electric vehicles (EVs). The increasing demand for storage solutions in EVs, particularly for features such as continuous dashcam recording, highlights the company's adaptability in addressing varied market needs.
