Kolkata Knight Riders Triumph Over Mumbai Indians in IPL Match
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a crucial victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match held at Eden Gardens. The match, which took place on 21 May 2026, featured KKR chasing down a target of 148 runs, finishing on 149 for 6 in 18.5 overs. Manish Pandey played a pivotal role in the win, scoring 45 runs off 33 balls, as KKR continued their quest for a playoff spot.
After winning the toss, KKR opted to field first, a decision that paid off as their bowlers limited MI to just 147 runs. The bowling unit proved effective, with disciplined performances preventing the visitors from gaining momentum. This defeat marked MI’s ninth loss of the season, intensifying scrutiny on their performance amid a challenging campaign.
The match began with KKR facing a challenging pitch, but Pandey and teammate Rovman Powell formed a vital 64-run partnership off 47 balls, guiding KKR to their target. The opening batsman Finn Allen gave KKR an encouraging start, hitting two boundaries before getting out to Deepak Chahar’s bowling in the first over.
The loss of Angkrish Raghuvanshi to injury early in the innings prompted Pandey to come in as a replacement at No. 3. He provided steady support alongside Ajinkya Rahane, contributing to a critical 38-run partnership. However, Rahane was dismissed by Corbin Bosch, who later took another wicket in the same over, dismissing Cameron Green.
While MI fought back with timely wickets, Pandey’s performance remained steady. He manoeuvred the ball expertly against Hardik Pandya and took charge during crucial overs. Even after being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah later on, Pandey had already ensured that KKR was within reach of the target.
In the final stages of the match, despite losing some wickets, the home team maintained their composure. Rinku Singh and Tejasvi Singh, who filled in for Raghuvanshi, assisted in guiding KKR to victory, with Rinku sealing the match with a boundary. KKR's win pushed them to 13 points in the IPL standings, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
