Keerthy Suresh Opens Up About Challenges of Interfaith Marriage
Keerthy Suresh, a prominent Indian actress, recently shared insights on the challenges she faced due to her interfaith marriage with businessman Antony Thattil. The couple, who were in a relationship for 15 years before their marriage in December 2024, had been navigating complex family dynamics since they began dating in 2010.
In a candid discussion with Curly Tales, Keerthy reflected on the difficulties she encountered at home, particularly rooted in their differing religious backgrounds. Antony Thattil, who is Christian, posed specific challenges that required considerable effort from Keerthy to address family concerns.
Keerthy revealed that her mother, veteran actress Menaka, discovered her relationship with Antony by reading her diary from her college days. "I started dating my husband way back. To be exact, I started dating him right after I completed my 12th grade. When I was in college, my mother read my diary. It had everything (about our relationship). She was like, ‘I’m your mother; I can read your diary,’" Keerthy stated. She expressed regret over stopping her diary writing due to this incident, reminiscing about her lost memories documented within.
The couple first met through mutual friends in December 2009, and their relationship bloomed into a long-distance affair for six years as Antony was based in Qatar at that time. Keerthy emphasised the strength of their bond, noting, "He had seen me before I became an actor. That’s the best part. We kind of grew up together.” This connection underpinned their long-lasting romantic involvement, which remained largely private until Keerthy made it public on social media in November 2024.
The pair married in a ceremony that included both traditional Tamil Hindu and Malayali Christian rituals, celebrated in Goa with close family and friends. Keerthy's recent work includes her role in the Netflix show 'Akka', alongside actors such as Radhika Apte and Tanvi Azmi, which has received mixed reviews from critics.
