Kangana Ranaut Comments on CJP Protest Impacting Parliament

Kangana Ranaut, the actor and Member of Parliament for Mandi, has shared her perspective on the recent Chalo Sansad march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The march, which took place during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, sparked significant unrest and drew approximately 50,000 protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over a question paper leak for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Ranaut reported that Members of Parliament felt a sense of fear regarding the protesters potentially storming the Parliament premises. "All parliamentarians were inside the House. We were all scared, thinking that the mob might attack us. I appreciate Delhi Police for playing the role of a shield, not letting people get harmed," she stated in an interview with the news agency ANI.

The protests began in the morning and significantly escalated as participants sought to reach Parliament. Security forces, including Delhi Police, deployed tear gas and physically intervened with batons to control the crowd, which had breached multiple barricades set up around key locations in central Delhi.

Delhi Police reported that several hundred barricades were erected along major roads leading to Parliament. The police stated that protesters demonstrated aggressive behaviour, resulting in 70 detentions and over a hundred injured police personnel during the violence. Damage was reported to government property and vehicles as the tensions rose in and around Parliament. An initial police statement indicated that legal action would be taken for various offences, including rioting.

Alongside her comments on the protest, Ranaut also referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address during a recent meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The Prime Minister urged parliamentarians to engage with youth on their concerns effectively and to discuss government achievements in areas such as science and infrastructure development. Ranaut mentioned, "He spoke about what our responsibility is in this regard, and how we should tackle these issues."

As these events unfolded, thousands of students remained gathered at Jantar Mantar, continuing to voice their demands for accountability regarding the NEET paper leak and the broader examination processes managed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Activist Sonam Wangchuk announced an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity with the protesters following police action that disrupted their ability to assemble peacefully and communicate with their representatives in Parliament.

Ranaut concluded her remarks by emphasising the importance of parliamentary debate for public accountability. She expressed concern over disruptions caused by protests, arguing that such disturbances hinder meaningful discussion of critical issues facing the country.
