Kajol Stuns in Punit Balana Sari at Durga Puja 2026 Celebration
The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja celebrations in Mumbai have drawn notable personalities, with Bollywood actress Kajol showcasing a striking custom sari designed by Punit Balana. This annual event is significant for Kajol, who regularly attends the festivities with family, including her daughter Nysa Devgn.
For the Mahanavami celebrations, Kajol wore an ombre silk sari, a unique creation incorporating a warm mustard hue that elegantly transitions into a sage green at the hem. The unusual pairing of these colours received attention for its seamless blend, demonstrating a modern twist on traditional attire.
The sari features a sleeveless blouse made from Chanderi silk, richly adorned with danka, gota, and zardozi embroidery. This craftsmanship is complemented by the sari's border, enhancing the regality of the overall ensemble. The embroidered blouse contributes a sophisticated touch to the simplicity of the sari.
Haylie Mehra, a stylist, curated Kajol's accessories, including antique-finish polki-studded jhumka earrings from the label Joolry. Kajol's makeup accentuated her features with highlighted cheeks and a glossy lip, while her traditional braid adorned with a gajra (flower garland) completed her festive look. This attention to detail highlights the richness of Indian traditional attire during the celebration.
Divya Balakrishnan, a fashion associate at Vogue India, remarked on Kajol's choice: "Kajol's two-toned sari is perfect for the festivities. Why not opt for a fitted crop top in one of the tonalities, pair it with Keds or sneakers, and it may just be the perfect look to get all the errands done from buying mithai to cleaning up the house or even inviting loved ones personally for the upcoming Dussehra festivities."
Kajol was not the only celebrity present; actress Alia Bhatt and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali also made appearances, each showcasing unique styles. Alia opted for a vibrant fuchsia pink sari, while other attendees, including Nysa Devgn and social media personality Orry, sported casual yet festive attire, exemplifying a range of traditional and modern fashion choices.
The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja is noteworthy for its familial connections to Bollywood, with the Mukherjee family hosting the event for decades, drawing visitors seeking blessings from Maa Durga. As this year's celebrations mark the 80th edition, the decorations and star-studded attendance illustrate the event's cultural importance in Mumbai, serving as both a spiritual gathering and a highlight for festive fashion in the city.
