Josh Hazlewood Stars as Australia Defeats South Africa in First Test
In an impressive display of pace bowling, Australian cricketer Josh Hazlewood secured six wickets, guiding his team to a commanding victory over South Africa in the first Test match of the series. The match took place at the Gabba in Brisbane and concluded within four days.
Hazlewood's performance was pivotal, as he dismantled the South African batting line-up, claiming figures of 6 for 64. His spell not only showcased his exceptional skills but also emphasised Australia's dominant presence on home soil.
South Africa, electing to bat first, struggled to find rhythm against a disciplined Australian bowling attack. The Proteas were bowled out for just 210 runs in their first innings. In response, Australia put up a formidable total of 353 runs, establishing a healthy lead.
Facing a significant deficit, South Africa entered their second innings under pressure. Hazlewood continued to wreak havoc, claiming crucial wickets and helping Australia dismiss the visitors for 194 runs, leading to a 159-run victory for the home side.
Australian captain Pat Cummins praised Hazlewood's performance, stating, "Having a bowler like Josh in your team makes a significant difference. He knows how to create pressure and take wickets when it matters most."
The win gives Australia a solid start in the series, leaving South Africa to regroup and strategise for the next match with the series lead now firmly in Australia’s hands.
