Jio Platforms Aims for ₹13-15 Lakh Crore Valuation Ahead of IPO
Jio Platforms Limited, the digital subsidiary of Reliance Industries, is preparing for what is projected to be India's largest initial public offering (IPO). The company anticipates a base valuation exceeding ₹13 lakh crore, with a targeted price range of ₹1,300 to ₹1,450 per share. If market conditions are favourable, this valuation could reach as high as ₹15 lakh crore.
The proposed timeline for the IPO includes the filing of the Red Herring Prospectus on October 16, the opening of the anchor book on October 19, and the public offering scheduled from October 21 to 23. The shares are expected to list on stock exchanges on October 28.
Market analysts have indicated that despite a challenging stock market environment, interest in Jio Platforms has remained robust following global roadshows designed to attract investors. The demand from institutional investors is particularly noteworthy, with Jio Platforms expected to secure a premium of at least 20% over Bharti Airtel’s current market capitalisation, which stands at approximately ₹10.86 lakh crore.
The Red Herring Prospectus serves as a crucial disclosure document that outlines the company's financials, structure, and essential details pertaining to the IPO. It is designed to aid potential investors in evaluating the offering prior to its launch. The anchor portion of the IPO, reserved for large institutional investors, is viewed as a significant indicator of overall market sentiment.
Jio Platforms is working with bankers to fine-tune its final pricing, based on the demand received during the book-building process. This method collects bids within the specified price range before establishing the cut-off price, which reflects the peak institutional interest.
Jio's valuation discussion is increasingly focused not only on its telecom services but also on its expanding digital ecosystem. This includes over 336 million monthly digital subscriptions, positioning Jio as a more diversified entity within the technology and connectivity sectors.
Investors' confidence has been bolstered by Jio's previous engagements with global tech leaders like Google and Meta, who invested in the company at significantly lower valuations in 2020. Should Jio Platforms secure a valuation of ₹13-15 lakh crore, the value of these investments could potentially increase almost threefold.
As preparations for the IPO progress, stakeholders will closely monitor the upcoming steps, including the finalisation of the Red Herring Prospectus and the response to the anchor investors, marking the next phase in Jio's journey towards becoming a publicly traded company.
