Israel Will Not Withdraw from Land in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz asserted on Monday that Israel has no intention of withdrawing from territories it has seized in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip. This announcement comes ahead of an interim deal between Iran and the United States, which is set to be signed in Geneva on Friday, June 19. The deal is expected to address multiple regional tensions, including the conflict involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Katz's statement marks the first official comment from Israel following the announcement of the interim Iran-US agreement. According to Katz, Israel plans to maintain its presence in these contested regions "indefinitely."
The Defence Minister also issued a warning regarding Iran's involvement, indicating that should Iran launch any attacks in response to Israeli actions against Hezbollah, Israel would retaliate with significant force.
Israel has recently expanded its control over an area of around 1,000 square kilometres, which is slightly less than the area of New York City. This expansion includes strategic territories in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
Iran has linked the anticipated interim agreement with the necessity of halting Israeli attacks on the Hezbollah group, which has been a critical point of ongoing conflict. The evolving situation continues to develop amid complex diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising the region.
As stated in previous reports, Israel's stance on its territories significantly complicates the overall peace negotiations as the nation remains outside the framework of the agreement. These developments highlight heightened tensions in the region and underscore ongoing vulnerabilities associated with territorial disputes.
While international stakeholders express hope for a resolution, deep-rooted distrust remains a significant barrier between the involved parties. Diplomatic discussions in Geneva represent a crucial step but do not fully encapsulate the myriad issues surrounding Israel's military and territorial strategies in the region.
