Ishan Kishan will be sidelined for the second T20I against New Zealand due to an injury sustained in the series opener.

Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan will not take part in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) match against New Zealand due to an injury he sustained during the first match of the series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Kishan has been ruled out following a low-grade strain to his right adductor muscle.

Kishan picked up the injury while playing in the opening T20I, a match notable for India’s historic chase of 226 runs, the highest in men’s T20I cricket. In that thrilling encounter held in Christchurch, India successfully chased down the target, achieving victory by four wickets with two balls remaining.

The BCCI stated that Kumar Kushagra has been brought into the squad as a replacement for Kishan for the upcoming match. Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma played pivotal roles in the first match, accumulating 67 and 29 runs respectively. Shreyas Iyer and Naman Dhir also made significant contributions, scoring 42 runs each, while Axar Patel added 24 runs to the total. This impressive performance enabled India to secure a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

The second T20I is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, as New Zealand aims to level the series. The Indian squad remains strong, featuring players like Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, and Axar Patel, among others.

In addition to the second T20I, the series itinerary includes a third match on 27 October in Wellington, followed by the fourth T20I on 30 October in Auckland, and concluding with a fifth match on 1 November in Hamilton.
