iQOO 16 Launch in India May Be Cancelled Amid Rising Memory Costs
The anticipated launch of iQOO 16 in India faces cancellation due to escalating memory prices, affecting competitive pricing in the smartphone market.

The launch of the iQOO 16 smartphone in India appears uncertain due to increasing memory costs, a trend impacting several technology brands. Recent reports suggest that rising expenses related to chip production have led to speculations about iQOO’s plans for the device.

According to well-known tipster Yogesh Brar, the iQOO 16's launch may be scrapped entirely. He noted, 'With current memory rates, iQOO 16 will cross Rs 85,000.' This price point could significantly alter the brand's perception in the Indian market, where iQOO has established a reputation for offering competitively priced products.

Historically, the iQOO 15 launched at Rs 72,999, reflecting a substantial increase compared to the iQOO 13, which started at Rs 54,999. Such a price jump for the new model would place it in direct competition with other major brands, particularly OnePlus, which has seen its latest flagship device surpass the Rs 85,000 mark.

The decision to alter its launch strategy may stem from the ongoing chip shortage issues plaguing the industry, which have forced various companies to reconsider their product offerings. iQOO has reportedly limited its releases to only one budget smartphone this year, with multiple planned products being cancelled.

While the iQOO 16 may not debut in India, it could still be introduced in China. Leaks indicate that the device will be equipped with the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, which is expected to offer enhanced performance capabilities.

Similar challenges have been observed across the industry. Other brands, including CMF, have also cancelled new product releases due to the same price pressures. CMF’s parent company, Nothing, has confirmed it will not be launching its much-anticipated successor to the Nothing Phone (3) this year, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue.

Major tech companies like Apple have also raised their product prices as a reaction to these rising memory costs, emphasising the impact of this trend on the overall market.

As the smartphone landscape continues to evolve due to these challenges, consumers may see further changes in pricing and availability in the coming months.
