IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans Secure Victory Over Lucknow Super Giants
Jos Buttler's impressive performance, marked by a second consecutive half-century, played a crucial role in the Gujarat Titans' seven-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) match. This win was achieved with eight balls remaining, successfully chasing down a target of 165 runs.
Buttler, alongside captain Shubman Gill, established a solid second-wicket partnership worth 84 runs. Gill contributed significantly to the chase with 56 runs, while Buttler top-scored with 60 from 37 deliveries. Their efforts seemed to put the Titans in a commanding position, but their dismissals in consecutive overs created a brief opening for Lucknow's bowling attack.
All-rounder Washington Sundar ensured Gujarat crossed the finish line, scoring an unbeaten 21 runs from 13 balls. Despite the setback of losing Gill and Buttler in quick succession, Sundar's timely innings secured the Titans' victory.
In contrast, Lucknow's batting lineup featured eight players who managed to score in double figures, but their innings lacked a standout performance. Opener Aiden Markram's contribution of 30 runs was the highest for Lucknow.
The match saw a remarkable display of seam bowling from Gujarat's Prasidh Krishna, who claimed four wickets for 28 runs, becoming the tournament's leading wicket-taker with ten scalps in four matches.
Jos Buttler reflected on his recent form, stating, "I had a bit of a lean patch over the past few months so it's nice to be contributing to wins. A little bit of space from the game has been helpful; a few technical issues crept into my game, so this has allowed me to go back to basics." This performance follows Buttler's last week’s score of 52 against the Delhi Capitals, signalling an upturn in his form.
With this victory, the Gujarat Titans have bounced back impressively after dropping their first two matches, showcasing their potential in the ongoing tournament.
