IndiGo Launches Cabin Baggage-Only Fare Option for Passengers

Indian airline IndiGo has announced the introduction of a new fare category called 'IndiGo Lite', aimed at passengers who prefer to travel light. This fare option allows customers to fly with only cabin baggage on both domestic and international flights, marking a shift towards a more flexible pricing model.

The airline, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, explained that the new fare structure is designed for economy class travellers who want to reduce their expenditure by paying only for the services they require. Under this model, passengers are permitted to carry cabin bags weighing up to 7 kilograms without incurring additional costs for checked luggage.

According to IndiGo, customers opting for the 'IndiGo Lite' fare will benefit from a lower base ticket price compared to other fare categories. Additionally, these passengers will receive an automatically assigned seat at no additional fee, streamlining the boarding process.

Aloke Singh, the chief strategy officer of IndiGo, noted that this initiative demonstrates the airline's responsiveness to changing market dynamics. He stated, "Designed for customers who travel light and would like to pay only for the services they need, IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio."

The introduction of budget-friendly options such as this comes as competitors like Air India Express also offer similar cabin baggage-only fare structures. IndiGo aims to reinforce its commitment to making air travel more accessible and affordable for a diverse range of passengers.

IndiGo operates over 2,100 flights daily, ensuring extensive connectivity for both domestic and international travellers. As newer fare models emerge in the aviation market, the airline seeks to cater to the evolving preferences of its customers while maintaining cost efficiency and service quality.
