Indian Stock Market Surges: Sensex and Nifty Striking New Heights
On 15th October 2026, Indian equity markets experienced a significant rally, with the Sensex climbing by 1,533.72 points, or 2.11 per cent, to conclude at 74,315.61. The Nifty 50 index also performed strongly, gaining 374.65 points, or 1.66 per cent, to reach 22,997.35.
Despite turbulence in Asian markets, largely attributed to concerns surrounding inflated valuations in artificial intelligence and rising inflation rates in the United States, the Indian markets demonstrated resilience. Analysts noted that the sell-off in global technology stocks elevated India's relative investment appeal, coupled with falling bond yields, a stable currency, and decreasing crude oil prices.
Sector-wise, the Nifty IT, Private Bank, and Auto indices were the standout performers. In contrast, the Media and Public Sector Bank segments experienced declines. Notably, IDBI Bank's shares fell by 8 per cent following the Cabinet's approval of a ₹52,878-crore stake sale to Fairfax at a discounted price.
The Indian Rupee also appreciated, rising by 12 paise to stand at 95.05 against the US dollar, marking its fifth consecutive day of gains. In commodity markets, Brent crude oil prices dropped by over 2 per cent, while precious metals saw an increase in value. Gold prices surged by more than 1.3 per cent, reaching ₹1,47,804 for every 10 grams, and silver rose by 1.32 per cent to ₹2,11,083.
Looking at regional trends, Asian markets struggled, with Japan’s Nikkei plummeting over 5 per cent, South Korea’s KOSPI dropping more than 8 per cent, and Taiwan's weighted index falling by 3.53 per cent.
In terms of market dynamics, analysts highlighted forthcoming earnings reports and foreign institutional investor inflows as pivotal factors that could influence future market movements. Current near-term support levels for the Nifty are identified between 22,950–22,900, with resistance levels estimated at 23,050–23,150. For the Sensex, support levels are positioned at 74,100–73,900, while resistance is at 74,600–74,900.
The Indian stock market’s bullish momentum coincides with significant developments in corporate earnings. For instance, Wipro saw its Q2 revenue rise by 9.1 per cent, reaching ₹24,753 crore, surpassing market expectations thanks to a recovery in client spending from Europe. Similarly, UCO Bank reported a net profit of ₹786 crore for the quarter ending September 30, showcasing a year-on-year increase of 26.77 per cent.
Overall, this market rally on 15th October was marked by substantial increases in major stock indices, affirming India's ongoing allure to investors amid fluctuating global conditions.
