India and South Korea Enhance Trade Relations with CEPA Upgrade

On April 20, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held a delegation-level meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. During a joint press conference, the two leaders announced significant developments in their bilateral relations, notably the decision to upgrade the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasised that the upgrade aims to foster a fairer economic partnership that does not result in substantial trade deficits. He stated that both nations seek to build a relationship characterised by mutual benefits rather than imbalances.
