India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate discusses the upcoming match against Pakistan in Colombo, highlighting the challenges ahead.

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has expressed his views on the upcoming match against Pakistan during the 2026 T20 World Cup, noting that the game could present a significant challenge. Speaking at a press event in Delhi on Tuesday, he addressed the uncertainties that had surrounded the match due to political tensions between the two nations. However, the Pakistan government has since confirmed that the fixture scheduled for February 15 will proceed as planned.

"First of all, it's great that the game is back on," said Ryan ten Doeschate. He highlighted that despite the uncertainty of recent days, the team maintained their preparation, always believing that the match would take place. He added, "We were always under the impression that something would transpire and we would play. So it's no big change the way we are going about things."

The assistant coach emphasised the importance of staying focused on the sport and avoiding distractions from political issues. He remarked that playing in Colombo, where Pakistan has been training for the past two weeks, could be particularly difficult. "It's going to be a challenge going to Colombo where Pakistan have been for the last two weeks and we fully focused on just bringing our best game to that fixture next week," he stated.

India's squad will travel to Colombo shortly, following their match against Namibia on Thursday in Delhi. In contrast, Pakistan will enjoy a four-day break after their second group game on February 10 before facing India.

Historically, India has had a strong record against Pakistan in their recent encounters, winning their last five matches dating back to October 2022. This winning streak is something the Indian team aims to continue as they prepare for one of the tournament's most anticipated fixtures. The match at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is expected to draw significant attention, contributing to the ongoing narrative of rivalry and competition in international cricket.

As teams gear up for the tournament, the focus remains on delivering high-quality performances, with both teams eager to secure vital points in the group stage. The upcoming encounter promises not only to be a test of skill but also a showcase of the complexities surrounding sport in politically charged contexts.
