India to Conduct Nationwide Census from January to February 2027
The Government of India has officially scheduled the next nationwide census for the period from 25th January to 28th February 2027. The announcement specifies that certain regions will be exempt from the census due to adverse weather conditions and ongoing elections. Areas affected by snowfall and those involved in polling activities will not participate in this census process.
The census is a critical administrative exercise that provides essential data, influencing a range of developmental policies and resource allocation across the nation. Authorities have indicated that preparations for this extensive undertaking are already underway to ensure a smooth and effective process.
As the previous census was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this upcoming exercise is particularly significant, reflecting societal changes and demographic shifts that have occurred over the past years. The census serves various purposes, including evaluating population growth, urbanisation, and socio-economic development.
Officials have emphasised the importance of public participation to achieve accurate results, which will aid in shaping government initiatives and programmes. Further details on the logistical aspects of the census are expected to be released closer to the commencement date.
