Gustaakh Ishq: CBFC Requests Changes to Controversial Language
The Central Board of Film Certification has asked for edits in Gustaakh Ishq, including altering certain words deemed inappropriate.

The romantic drama 'Gustaakh Ishq', featuring actors Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Naseeruddin Shah, premiered in theatres today. Following the film's release, reports have emerged regarding its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), revealing that the board has requested specific changes to the dialogue.

CBFC Certification Details

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, 'Gustaakh Ishq' received a U/A 13+ classification from the CBFC. However, this certification came with recommendations for several modifications to the script. The board suggested that the filmmakers replace certain words, including 'harami' with 'kameena' (meaning scoundrel), and 'sex' with 'aiyaashi', which translates to indulgence or debauchery. The board did not mandate the removal of any scenes from the film but did require these linguistic alterations.

The film, which has a total runtime of 128 minutes, was officially certified on November 11. Following the requested changes, the film received its final certification, allowing it to be screened in theatres.

Film Overview

In addition to Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh, the cast includes Sharib Hashmi. The film is directed by Vibhu Puri, known for his previous work on 'Hawaizaada'. 'Gustaakh Ishq' was first showcased at the International Film Festival of India, which took place in Goa on November 24.

Cast Insights

During the trailer launch event, Fatima Sana Shaikh shared her thoughts on the evolving nature of love in contemporary society. She remarked, "Earlier, people used to think a lot before professing their love. Now, it’s often reduced to sending memes and emojis. I long for slow, passionate, and deep love. A little laughter and a little crying—that’s the kind of love I prefer!"

Vijay Varma also commented on modern relationships, stating, "Now, we have a tag for everything. If your partner is silent, they are accused of ghosting. Instead of understanding, we tend to label and move on quickly."

Audience Reception

While the film aims to capture the essence of traditional romance, early viewer responses have been varied. Critics note that the film presents a refreshing take on love, reminiscent of classic Bollywood narratives. However, some audiences have yet to engage with the film, as indicated by attendance figures in early screenings.

As discussions around 'Gustaakh Ishq' continue, the film's reception and the implications of the CBFC's language edits are likely to remain focal points in the coming weeks. The film's ability to resonate with modern viewers while respecting traditional themes of romance may ultimately determine its success at the box office.
